- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup hot water
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 jar of cherry filling
- Fresh cherries for topping
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
- In another bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, buttermilk, oil, and vanilla until combined.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix in the hot water. The batter will be thin.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Once baked, let the cakes cool completely.
- Beat the heavy cream and powdered sugar together until stiff peaks form.
- Layer the cooled cakes with whipped cream and cherry filling.
- Frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining whipped cream.
- Garnish with fresh cherries and chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder for a beautiful finish!
Notes
Serve at room temperature for the best taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
