Description
A classic British comfort food dish of juicy sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes and topped with rich onion gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 sausages (bangers)
- 2 large potatoes (for mashing)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain and mash them with butter, salt, and pepper.
- In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and cook the sausages until browned and cooked through.
- Remove sausages and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
- Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook until softened and caramelized.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, then gradually add beef broth, stirring until the gravy thickens.
- Serve the sausages over the mashed potatoes, topped with onion gravy.
Notes
For extra creamy mashed potatoes, use a ricer or food mill. Don’t rush caramelizing the onions for added sweetness and depth in the gravy.
