Description

A classic British comfort food dish of juicy sausages served over creamy mashed potatoes and topped with rich onion gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 sausages (bangers)
  • 2 large potatoes (for mashing)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, then drain and mash them with butter, salt, and pepper.
  2. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat and cook the sausages until browned and cooked through.
  3. Remove sausages and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
  4. Add sliced onions to the skillet and cook until softened and caramelized.
  5. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, then gradually add beef broth, stirring until the gravy thickens.
  6. Serve the sausages over the mashed potatoes, topped with onion gravy.

Notes

For extra creamy mashed potatoes, use a ricer or food mill. Don’t rush caramelizing the onions for added sweetness and depth in the gravy.
