Description

A delightful dessert that combines the flavors of a classic banana split into a moist, chocolatey cake topped with whipped cream, fresh bananas, and rich chocolate ganache.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 1 cup Hot water
  • 1 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 Ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup Powdered sugar
  • 1 cup Heavy cream (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup Heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Sliced bananas
  • 1 cup Whipped cream (for topping)
  • Chocolate chips (for topping)
  • Crushed nuts (for topping)
  • Maraschino cherries (for topping)
  • Chocolate shavings (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth.
  4. Gradually mix in hot water until well combined. Divide the batter among the prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely.
  6. In a separate bowl, whip 1 cup of heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the mashed bananas, powdered sugar, and vanilla until well combined.
  7. Heat 1/2 cup of heavy cream in a saucepan until it simmers. Pour it over the chocolate chips and let it sit for 2 minutes. Stir until smooth.
  8. On a serving plate, place one cake layer and spread banana cream filling over the top. Repeat with the second layer.
  9. Place the final cake layer on top and pour ganache over, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  10. Top the cake with whipped cream, sliced bananas, maraschino cherries, chocolate chips, crushed nuts, and chocolate shavings.
  11. Serve slightly chilled for the best taste.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter. You can freeze the cake layers individually wrapped and assemble when ready to serve.
