  • 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the package, typically eggs, oil, and water)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 package (3.4 oz) instant banana pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 23 bananas, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups vanilla wafer cookies, crushed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Prepare the cake batter according to the package instructions, adding the vanilla extract and mashed bananas.
  3. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes, then refrigerate for 5 minutes.
  6. For the whipped topping, beat the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  7. To assemble, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread half the pudding on top, add sliced bananas, and sprinkle with crushed wafers.
  8. Repeat the process with the second layer using the remaining pudding, bananas, and wafers.
  9. Cover the entire cake with the whipped topping and refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  10. Garnish with extra bananas or wafers if desired.

Notes

Use ripe bananas for the best flavor. Chill the cake before serving for a refreshing treat.
