- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 cups apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and sour cream, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
- Fold in the chopped apples and walnuts.
- Pour the batter into the cake pan and bake for 35-40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the caramel drizzle, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
- Drizzle the caramel over the cooled cake, slice, and serve.
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream or a cup of coffee for a perfect treat. Store in an airtight container for up to three days.
